Yes, there is building codes. You might be out of the country too long. It might not be as strict. But your house be the minimal such that it does not cause nuisance, intrude, or cause any other problem that is not coherent within the neigbhorhood. THe codes especially apply in the city.

I don't think Cambodia have any building code anyway. If they do, more than half of the houses in the country won't pass it. People just built what ever that they can afford. Either a $50 home or $1.000.000 home. I have seen people built their own structures anyway they want. They don't even require a permit. How about all those homes that built above water, like along Mekong and Tonle Sap ?

Alright let me explain the design.
There are 2 sleeping areas on the 2nd floor in the front and rear. This leaves an 8 Ft area in the center of the home wide open to the roof. The heat raises up hits the roof and is forced out the vent system you see all along the side up there.Yes the silver reflects the sunlight this helps to keep the inside cool also.I recorded temps of 38C outside and it never ever got above 31 anywhere in the house.I do plan to add side vents on the walls but was unable to find them before i had to leave. The small square holes you see on top are for solar powerd fans that again have not been instaled.Wind hitting the sides of the home go up the walls and circulate through the roof vents also. The land in front has not been graded off yet but the people who live there say they have no water problems. When several homes are built in one area you stagger them one up front and the home alongside to the rear.
Now these homes are for people living under a piece of plastic or a straw shack and they are free to the needy people.
So please tell me what else I'm doing wrong!

If your neighbors are bad, It also good to keep the house. Actually it is not bad, Just make sure there are alot of windows or simply install Air conditioner.I never see one like this before.

Sapsara, stop whining and start doing something about it. It is a fine house.
If you can't say anything nice, hush.

THis type roof causes sore eyes for your neighbors. No one build a house like this in Cambodia with silver lining that is used a wall. House with metal roof usually creates alot of heat in the summer. Most Cambodian prefer bricks. Your first floor will flood during monson. The city officials should ask you to remove that silver wall(just the sides) because it causes too much reflection - cause blind eyes to your neighbors.

I just called Cambodia and they say the home is staying nice and cool. So the bright silver is reflecting the sun and the vent system is working as planned Cowboy is very Happy!
